It’s back to school time in San Marcos, and we will be welcoming back some old, and some new bobcats to the area! Now that the Spring semester is here, check out our top 10 picks for things to explore in San Marcos!
1. Don’s Fish Camp
With Spring Break around the corner (9 weeks away), floating the river at Don’s Fish Camp will be the move! They are known for being the “Best Float in Texas” for a reason! On Saturday afternoons they have a DJ, food trucks, a rope swing, and a fun beach area to hangout at after your float with your friends!
2. Paddle SMTX
If you’re looking for a fun, day or night water adventure with your friends, Paddle SMTX is the place for you! They have a night tour that my friends and I did last year called, “SUP Glow Tours.” Everyone, (on their own paddle board) follows a guide up and down the San Marcos River and at night we used paddle-boards with underwater LED lights! It was one of my most memorable experiences here in San Marcos!
3. Sewell Park
During the Spring semester, a student favorite spot to study and relax is Sewell Park. Conveniently, it’s even right next to campus, and they even have sand volleyball and basketball if you’re in need for a fun study break!
4. Cape’s Dam
There is even a secluded spot near the Woods apartment complex called “Cape’s Dam,” this is a fun spot where my friends and I like to hike! It’s a beautiful spot with a man made waterfall that many people don’t know about! The best part is that it’s away from the crowd that Sewell Park attracts sometimes! (Disclaimer: we the city doesn’t like people going into this area so don’t break the law and we recommend that you follow city guidelines).
5. Daq Beach Bar
Another one of our favorite spots on the square! Daq is always a fun time and the daiquiris are delicious! They have a DJ Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights! Daq has great vibes and lots of Daiquiri flavors and beer options, and after a fun day on the river it always hits the spot!
A cute little place on the square that my friends and I love to go to called “IcyRolls,” make some DELICIOUS homemade ice cream! They have so many flavors and toppings, plus they have boba! And better than that, they are open everyday of the week!
Grins is one of my favorite restaurants here in San Marcos that my friends and I would eat at after classes on Monday’s and Wednesday’s. Now this is for the 21 and up club, but one of the specials they are known for are their $.99 margaritas from 3pm-7pm, Monday through Friday. They also have a great patio view with a very laid-back vibe.
8. Purgatory Park
One of my favorite places to go when I need some peace and quiet is Purgatory Park. It’s a large biking and hiking trail with beautiful scenic overlooks. I love to take my dog and really get some peaceful alone time and it’s the best place to do it!
9. Jacob’s Well
There’s even a beautiful natural swimming spot in the town over in Wimberley, TX called Jacob’s Well. They even have underwater caves! Although it is a smaller area, it’s still a great place to take your friends or family on a beautiful day!
10. TXST Baseball
If you’re into sports (or not), you can have a lot of fun at the game while supporting the Bobcats! I know that baseball and softball won’t be starting until February, but both our men’s and women’s baseball teams are in season until March! Don’t forget the nachos!
There are so many fun places to explore and try around or near San Marcos! If you are returning back from Christmas break, welcome back! And if you’re a new Bobcat, welcome to the great city of San Marcos, aka San Marvelous!
